DKCH LP1 Blåskæg’s Molly Malone - ”Sisse”

Sisses Pedigree

D.O.B 20/08-1991 – entered the Rainbow Bridge 12/11-2003

Sisse was our first Kerry AND our first dog. She entered our lives in June 1992, at the age of 10 month.
It wasn’t easy for my sister and I to persuade our parents to get a dog – it took us five years – our parents always said that we would loose interest after fourteen days!
Not long time after we got her she was entered at her first show. When she was full-grown, she was so beautiful – she was the real Irish type Kerry. In 1994 she became Danish Champion and Kerry bitch of the year.
Unfortunately, she was afraid of high sounds and because of that, she was away from the show ring for some years before returning as a senior and veteran – her last show was only 1½ month before we had to say our last goodbyes to her.
She is and will always be highly missed by all of us and have a special place in our hearts.
Not only was she a beautiful Kerry, she was also a fantastic Obedience dog – she was district champion two years in a row. Unfortunately she wouldn’t retrieve and could therefore not go further.

I wrote the following letter just a few hours after Sisse passed the Rainbow Bridge – that was my way to get through that very hard time.

Dear little Sisse girl (DKCH, LP1 Blåskæg’s Molly Malone)

I remember clearly the first time I saw you – you were 10 month old and needed a new home.
If your “dad” hadn’t been involved in a car accident eight month back we would already have known you all those month.
When we were told that we couldn’t have you we started to look for another breeder and found one, but lucky enough there were no puppies born from the two litters.
At that time we were desperate – my sister I and had been begging for a dog since 1987. We contacted the breeder where we eight month earlier were to have a Kerry from AND they happened to have two 10 month old Kerry girls and one of them was to be sold..

We decided to visit Kennel Blåskæg the same Wednesday afternoon in June 1992.

The first thing that you did was to jump up on my dads lap – WE WERE SOLD!
Three days later your “family” came and delivered you at your new home. You were newly groomed and looked like a million.

I can’t express in words all that you have done to us. You were our first dog and our first show dog and obedience dog. Kerry bitch of 1994, two years in a row you were district champion in obedience.
But all of these things were only a VERY small part of you – foremost you were OUR family pet.

Exactly two weeks ago today, you began to have problems with your bag legs and you didn’t seem to be the same Sissen as usual. We of cause took you to your Vet (who has treated you a countless times in the past). We could see that you were close to Dreamland but we went on hoping for the best. At this time you were still having an appetite and what were more important you were still a happy girl. The vet took a blood sample and the result came the day after – the level for your liver was 194 against 73 as the normal max!
You began on a liver diet but on the Friday of the same week – you seemed to be near the end but we gave you a chance and on the following day you were as changed, happy, clear and not walking like a drunk.
But unfortunately this was just a short respite. Yesterday evening you were happy and had a very long tongue when we were eating. Afterward you got a piece of your bellowed carrot. Later on you were just lying on the floor and when I went to bed I placed you next to me (as usual), offered you some carrot but you weren’t interested. At that point I knew what we had to do but I prayed to God that you wouldn’t wake up this morning – I begged you to let go and told you how much we all loves you and that we always will.

When I woke you were still there too but not interested in anything. Around eight I took the decision to call your “mom” and “dad” to say that it was time. They came home from work and I called the Vet.
The Vet came around noon. She told you and us what she was about to do – she was, as always, extremely kind to you. You were still lying on my bed – directly in a sunbeam (the sun came through for the first time for days).
She gave you two pricks and then you were in Dreamland, me holding your beautiful head in my hands. Mads, your baby brother, came into the room and sniffed at you as if he was saying goodbye too.

We wrapped you in a towel, my sheet and a quilt together with some dog biscuit, carrots and some of your favourite toys.
Now you are out in the garden and we will plant a plant on top of you and never forget your beautiful soul.

Sweet girl, we will always love you from the ground and up to eternity.

Love “ME”
